자개의 빛을 현대적인 조형 언어로 확장해 온 류지안은 베니스 《Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light》에 참여합니다. 예술감독 에스 데블린(Es Devlin)이 5개 대륙에서 선정한 20인의 창작자가 ‘종소리의 울림’을 각자의 예술 언어로 해석하는 《Twenty Silent Songs》에서 특별 제작한 《Silent Song 5》를 선보입니다. 작가는 종소리의 공명을 자신이 지속적으로 탐구해 온 ‘빛의 언어’로 풀어냅니다. 중심에서 외곽으로 확산되는 자개의 배열과 변화하는 빛을 통해 눈에 보이지 않는 소리의 흐름을 시각화하며, 자개가 빛에 따라 끊임없이 변화하는 특성을 통해 소리와 빛, 감각이 서로 교차하는 순간을 담아냅니다. 이 작품은 전시 종료 후 미켈란젤로 재단(Michelangelo Foundation)의 영구 컬렉션으로 소장될 예정입니다. 또한 《A Full Moon Rising》에도 자개 달항아리 작업 2점을 선보이며 Homo Faber 2026의 두 전시에 함께 참여합니다.
Jian Yoo, whose practice has expanded the luminous qualities of mother-of-pearl into a contemporary visual language, participates in Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light in Venice. For Twenty Silent Songs, curated by Artistic Director Es Devlin, twenty makers from five continents were invited to interpret the resonance of bells through their own artistic languages. For this special presentation, the artist unveils a newly commissioned work, Silent Song 5. She translates the resonance of a bell into the “language of light” that she has continuously explored throughout her practice. Through an arrangement of mother-of-pearl radiating outward from the centre and shifting with the light, she gives visual form to the invisible movement of sound. The iridescent surface of mother-of-pearl, constantly transforming in response to light, captures a moment in which sound, light, and perception intersect. Following the exhibition, Silent Song 5 will enter the permanent collection of the Michelangelo Foundation. The artist is also featured in A Full Moon Rising, presenting two of her mother-of-pearl Moon Jar works, and will therefore participate in two exhibitions as part of Homo Faber 2026.
