이영지(b.1975) 작가는 채색화의 깊이를 현대적 감수성으로 섬세하게 엮어내며, 인간의 감정과 자연에 대한 서정을 따뜻한 시선으로 그려낸다. 전통 재료와 기법을 바탕으로 하되, 일상의 감정과 삶의 흔적을 섬세하고 개성적인 조형 언어로 풀어내며, 채색화의 새로운 방향을 제시하고 있다. 성신여자대학교 동양화과와 동 대학원을 졸업한 이영지는 전통적인 장지 위에 분채 안료를 여러 번 덧입히는 방식으로 화면을 완성한다.

선화랑에서 2016년 예감전을 시작으로 2018년《네가 행복하니 내가 행복해》, 2021년 《숲속숨쉼씀》, 2023년《Stay with me》, 2025년《In Your Silence》까지 총 네 차례 개인전을 가졌으며, 아부다비와 홍콩을 비롯한 다양한 국제 미술 시장에서 큰 호응을 얻으며 활발한 활동을 이어가고 있다. 또한 삼성인력개발원, 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 정부미술은행 등 다수의 공공기관에 작품이 소장되어 있다. 전통 채색화의 기법을 충실히 따르면서도, 삶 속 감정을 솔직하고 위트 있게 담아내는 이영지의 작업의 화면은 단지 자연을 묘사하는 것이 아니라, 삶의 내면과 감정을 응시하게 만드는 조용한 이야기의 장이다.
Lee YoungJi delicately weaves the depth of traditional Korean color painting with a contemporary sensibility, portraying the emotions of humanity and the lyrical beauty of nature with a warm gaze. Rooted in traditional materials and techniques, her work reinterprets everyday emotions and traces of life through a refined and distinctive visual language, proposing a new direction for Korean color painting. A graduate of the Department of Oriental Painting and its graduate program at Sungshin Women's University, Lee builds her compositions by repeatedly layering mineral pigments on traditional Korean mulberry paper (hanji). To achieve her desired hues, she applies multiple undercoats, allowing delicate ink lines from a dry brush to drift across the surface like flowing time. Leaves, grasses, birds, and other natural elements drawn with fine brushes reflect the artist’s patient and meditative approach to creation. Her works transcend depictions of natural landscapes, expanding into internal realms shaped by existence, relationships, time, and memory. Symbolic motifs such as trees and birds frequently appear in her art. The tree represents the self, shaped and completed through the passage of life, while birds serve as emotional intermediaries, projecting human sentiment. In this way, Lee composes her paintings as poetic reflections of lived experience. Their warm and intuitive beauty offers solace and healing to those worn by the complexities of modern life. The artist describes herself as "not simply existing, but like a tree, shaped by everything she has faced and overcome through time," viewing her art as an "accumulation of life." Through the metaphor of trees growing leaves, bearing fruit she invites viewers to contemplate the serene beauty and essence of life. Her works are not merely visual experiences, but emotional landscapes that evoke thought and empathy.
Since her debut solo exhibition Premonition at SunGallery in 2016, she has held several significant exhibitions including Are You Happy, Then I Am (2018), Forest, Breath, Being (2021), Stay with Me (2023), and In Your Silence (2025). Her works have received enthusiastic responses in international art markets such as Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong. Lee's paintings are also part of esteemed public collections including Samsung Human Resources Development Center, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Art Bank, and the Government Art Bank. While staying true to the techniques of traditional Korean color painting, Lee YoungJi’s art captures the honest, sometimes whimsical emotions of daily life. Her canvases are not mere depictions of nature, but quiet narratives that invite viewers to confront the inner landscapes of life and feeling.
